The Academic College at Wingate, in conjunction with the University of Nicosia and the Olympic Committee of Israel, is proud to host the 5th International Congress of Exercise and Sport Sciences scheduled to take place June 7-10, 2018 at the Academic College at the Wingate Institute, Netanya, Israel.

The Congress will focus on a wide range of themes related to exercise and the sport sciences, including sports management, sports psychology, Olympic education, physiology, social issues in sport, public health issues, sports pedagogy, physiology of emergency forces, social issues in sport,  and sport nutrition, among others.

The goal of the Congress is to bring together leading professionals and researchers in the field of exercise and sport sciences, in order to stimulate discussion on the latest innovations in these areas.

The Congress is held biannually to provide physical activity professionals with an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience. All interested professionals, whether individuals or associations, from around the world are encouraged to participate.

The Congress program includes sessions presenting original research, panel discussions, poster presentation, and practical workshops. 

Former Congresses of Exercise and Sport Sciences at the Academic College at Wingate have been attended by over 2000 participants from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, Finland, France, India, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey, UK, USA, New Zealand, Germany, Holland, France, Hungary, the Ukraine, Russia and China, among others. In these exciting encounters, researchers from almost every corner of the world engaged in scientific and social dialogue over the three days of lectures, workshops, and social events. Social events include an opening banquet and a closing evening. In addition, a guided tour to a historical landmark is offered providing an opportunity for participants, especially those visiting Israel for the first time, to see the holy sites of the country.

TRANSPORT

If you have arranged shuttle service with us from the Ben-Gurion Airport, when you come out of baggage claim and customs, look for the shuttle service driver carrying a 2016 Wingate Congress sign. If you are arriving at a date other than June 1 or 2, and/or wish to arrange travel back to the airport, the following travel options are available:

Train from Ben-Gurion Airport to Netanya (about $8 per person):

Bus (about $9 per person):

Egged Bus System

Taxi (about $60-$70, depending on time of day)

Service cabs:

If you are interested in travelling within Israel during your stay, there is also a service cab available which is similar to a bus, but picks up only up to 10-12 passengers at any time. It stops or lets off passengers wherever they wish on its route (Looks like a mini-van, white and yellow, with TAXI written on it).

TECHNOLOGY

In Israel, the electric current is between 110-220 Hz. If you are bringing devices with a different electric current, we suggest you bring a universal adaptor.

In order to prevent any computer complications, we strongly urge all participants to send us power point presentations so we can upload these in advance and check that they can be uploaded on our system.  If you are using any other technological tools or video clips, we suggest you send these to us in advance to check on our system as well. No materials you send us will be made public without your consent.

Our Information Technology staff will assist participants in uploading their presentations on site as well.

CURRENCY

Most business establishments in Israel accept only New Israeli Shekels. Currency exchange points are available and usually offer a better rate than banks.

ATM machines are also widely available and credit cards can be used to draw cash in Israeli currency.

SABBATH IN ISRAEL

Friday is considered a half day in Israel and most business establishments close at about 15:00 until Saturday at sundown (about 19:00-20:00). Some restaurants and cafes are open (especially in Tel-Aviv) and kosher restaurants are closed.

There is no public transportation (trains and buses) from Friday afternoon to Saturday at sundown. However, service cabs (see above) and taxis are available.
