About the Halliwick Concept:

The Halliwick Concept is an approach to teaching all people, and in particular, those with physical and/or learning difficulties, to participate in water activities, to move independently in water, and to swim.

The Halliwick Concept was developed by the swimming instructor and engineer of hydromechanics James McMillan MBE and his wife Phyl McMillan, MBE in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Since then, the Concept has gradually spread out over the world.

The IHA holds an International Conference every 6 years, intended for anyone who is interested in hydrotherapy, swimming and working in the water with people with disabilities. To read more about the IHA, go to the IHA website

The conference will include online lectures and workshops, as well as poster presentations and ample time for discussion and informal interactions between lecturers, trainees and those who are practicing the Halliwick Concept or want to learn more about it.

The conference will features a keynote lectures and parallel session, giving participants access to a range of topics.

Each session will include several presentations organized around themes related to one or more aspects of the Halliwick Concept and water activity for people with disabilities.

The social program will include a welcome reception, providing an opportunity for attendees to make and renew acquaintances in a relaxed setting.

About the International Halliwick Association:

The International Halliwick Association (IHA) is registered as an Association in the records of the Danish Business Authority.

Our objectives are to maintain the Halliwick Concept of swimming for disabled people and to develop the concept and teaching and treatment method in accordance with new experiences and scientific advances.

Aims of the IHA are:

To promote the Halliwick Concept of teaching swimming and rehabilitation in water throughout the world
To encourage good practice in the use of the Halliwick Concept.

Halliwick Group Israel was founded by the 6 certified lecturers of the Halliwick Concept in Israel. The goals of the group are:

a. To join all lecturers, trainees, and those who practice the Halliwick Concept in Israel

c. To encourage training in basic and advanced courses
