WELCOME LETTER

The Institute of Economics, Society and Peace in the Middle East is honored to invite you to

The International Conference on ECONOMIC STRENGTH AND SOCIAL CAPITAL IN THE MIDDLE EAST

to be held as a hybrid event in Acre, Israel and online, August 24-26, 2021.

The assumption underlying this conference is that economic growth and cooperation, as well as social capital development, affect the political relations between nations and may lead to peace agreements between former combatants, thus decreasing the prospects of regional violent conflicts. This assumption, however, cannot be taken for granted. Although some argue that economic growth and social capital strengthen government institutions, attract foreign investments, enable a stable market economy, and encourage other processes enhancing the prospects of a peaceful approach to foreign relations, others contend that these factors may lead political leaders in countries involved in lengthy conflicts to entrench their former positions, thus decreasing the chances of peace.

The conference is planned to be a central meeting point for local and international research scientists and government representatives from Israel and from around the world and is a unique platform bringing together elite speakers and top individuals from academia, business, military, and government. We anticipate attendees from Israel and abroad with diversified expertise and interests, discussing the complexity of the middle east from different aspects (economy, globalization, demography, ethnicity, religion, gender etc.).

Please join us and meet the top researchers and leaders from Israel and abroad to discuss the economic, demographic, and cultural challenges of the Middle East.

We look forward to welcoming you,

Sincerely,

Nissim Ben David, President of Western Galilee College

Hagit Turjeman, Chair of The Institute of Economics, Society and Peace in the Middle East
